Suganthi Singam graduated with an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Manchester and obtained an LL.M from the University of Malaya. She was admitted to the High Court of Malaya as an Advocate & Solicitor in 1996 after obtaining the Certificate of Legal Practice.
Suganthi’s area of expertise encompasses a diverse range of employment related legal issues and workplace strategic areas addressing both contentious and non contentious matters. She provides special focus to newly incorporated companies and foreign investments in Malaysia from the employment context relating to the drafting of employment contracts and handbook. She also deals substantially with managing misconduct and poor performance, advising on stock option schemes or share awards for employees and related issues thereof. From the perspective of corporate acquisitions of companies and mergers she provides strategic guidance in dealing with the employment issues that arise. On workplace risk management and safety she advises on occupational health & safety issues as well as sexual harassment policies and procedures. Her experience also extends to dealing with trade union recognition issues, labour disputes and strike actions. In addition to employment matters she also undertakes immigration related matters pertaining to employment permits.
She has wide experience in employment and judicial review matters and has conducted hearings in all levels of the courts ranging from the Labour Court, Industrial Court, High Court, Court of Appeal to the Federal Court.
She is a member of the Malaysian Bar and has previously served on the Industrial Court Practice Committee.
